I was eating breakfast recently when N sat down next to me at the counter. He was intently working on his latest craft project. This one involved creating a creature from a cardboard tube with some paper he'd cut out and taped to it. The conversation went something like:
Me: What do you have there?
N: I'm not sure. It kind of has a duck's beak. I think it's going to be a duck.
N begins cutting some paper. I resume reading the paper.
N: It just needs a tail.
Snip. Snip. Tape. Tape.
N: Oh man, this doesn't look like a duck tail at all!
Usually, at this point things get ugly fast. I expected much lamenting about how difficult it is to craft a decent duck tail. I expected this to be followed by the abrupt removal of the inferior tail along with proclamations about how impossible a task he had undertaken.
Instead, it was eerily quiet. I looked over and N was just staring at the tube.
Me: Is everything okay?
N: Dad, look. I think I made a platypus!
I never realized how much I loved the platypus until that moment.

Hi John - hey look, I found you on my computer!!! And I can leave a comment!!! My phone didn't seem to want me to do that, but I think my computer will, of course I won't know until I hit "publish", but I'm optimistic!! Take care, and I''ve got you bookmarked! -Kris
Hey! I have NO IDEA (seriously) why the computer is calling me "Mom"! Maybe because on Seyward's blog I was "Mom"? No idea. I will see if I can change it, but no guarantees!!
(this is your sister, Kris, by the way).
Okay, I think I got it fixed!! Sorry to use up all your space here, but heck, I know you like comments to be left!!
Hi John,
I will have to remain anonymous because I don't know how to do the whole google thing. At least I'm not calling myself Mom. For a moment Rachel and I actually thought that Grandma Janice had actually learned how to blog!

I had a brief moment where I too thought Mom had left a comment. I was thinking, "Good for you, Mom!"
Then I saw the signature and I thought, "Good for you, Kris!"
Anyway, it must be good for somebody.
